Sometimes we don’t see things in the moment. We miss the subtle characteristics or the eccentricities that fill life, as we go about our days focused on what we need to do next, rather than being in the “here and now”.

As well as becoming more aware of the way our actions impact other people, mindfulness presents the ability to enjoy things as they come to pass, without the anxiety of thinking about what comes next.

I find photography to be an exercise in mindfulness. As you are looking through the viewfinder, your mind is solely on the picture you are taking, and nothing else. Not the next photo you’re going to take, not the meeting with your boss that you’ve been fretting or the project that’s due next week. It’s refreshing to be fully in the moment.
